Clay County Public School District is headquartered in Green Cove Springs and caters to the communities of Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, Fleming Island, Penney Farms, Clay Hill, Oakleaf and Keystone Heights.  The district is highly rated and serves just under 40K students, grades pre-K through twelfth grade. The student-teacher ratio is 15:1. Sixty-six percent of the students are proficient in math and 62% are proficient readers.

The district operates under the philosophy that it exists to prepare life-long learners for success in a global and competitive workplace and in acquiring applicable life skills.

  • “B” Ranking according to the Florida Department of Education & the New Florida Standards and Florida Standard Assessments (FSA) test results 
  • Offer at least one choice program, special program or acceleration program to students 
  • Sixty-four schools offer magnet programs: dedicated magnets, which do not have set boundaries, and non-dedicated magnets, which are neighborhood schools that also have magnet programs. 
  • 34 charter schools within its boundaries, 89% of which scored an A, B or C grade, most of which are on a waitlist lottery system due to high demand. 
  • Duval’s Stanton College Preparatory school & Paxon School for Advanced Studies named among the top 25 most challenging high schools in the U.S.

The Military Child Education Coalition supports Florida military children via programs in the Duval County school district. In addition, the Coalition offers grants to pay for military student support services paired with a school-based transition consultant in order to help meet various needs pertaining to educational challenges that sometimes result due to frequent relocation. In addition, each school within the Duval County Public School District offers a full-time military life counselor who provides one-one-one services to military students and their families. It is not uncommon for counselors to meet with deployment groups weekly in order for students to share a time of expressing their emotions and experiences with other students of similar backgrounds. As of April 30, 2021, Duval County Public Schools proudly serves 8,672 military students and their families!

Nassau County Public School District:

Headquartered in Fernandina Beach, comprises 16 fully accredited schools serving Bryceville, Callahan, Hilliard, Yulee, and Fernandina Beach. The Nassau Adult High School serves adults in Hilliard, Callahan, Yulee, & Fernandina Beach. NCPD has single feeder patterns in each of the communities it serves, supporting children as they move from school to school throughout each level of their educational career. NCPD has always been generously supported by local communities and businesses, fostering a distinct family atmosphere for the students it serves.

SCHOOL REGISTRATION

Documents required for registration:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Florida Certificate of Immunization, Form 680 (blue card)
  • Completed Medical Exam within 12 months prior to school entry date, to be completed by pediatrician
  • Proof of residency

Documents required for out-of-state or nonpublic school students:

  • Proof of residency in the state in which the child was previously enrolled
  • Transcripts/letter indicating academic info/performance/grade placement
  • Record of Attendance
  • Immunization record
  • Proof of medical exam completed within the past year, completed by pediatrician

Children who achieve age five on or by September 1 of the school year may apply for public school admission to Kindergarten. Children who achieve age six by February 1 of any school year must attend school regularly during the entire school year as mandated by law. First grade enrollment is limited to students age six on or before September 1 who have successfully completed Kindergarten. Students age 16 are not legally required to attend school upon filing a declaration of intent to terminate school enrollment. This document must be filed with the school district and signed by a parent or legal guardian.

County Health departments will generally offer free immunizations, however the Florida Certificate of Immunization MUST be completed by a licensed Florida doctor or a county health department in Florida. Required immunizations consist of:

  • DTP/DTaP (Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis) before 7th grade
  • IPV/OPV (Polio)
  • MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella)
  • Hepatitis B
  • Chicken Pox
  • HIB (Haemophilus influenza type B) for pre-K enrollment
