15 year old Sira had escaped her trafficker and Rapha provided her with protection, care, and love after escape. She didn’t trust anyone or interact with anyone there since a girl her own age was the one who convinced her into being trafficked. The friend left once Sira was inside the business and from that moment Sira decided friends could not be trusted. She refused to talk to anyone at Rapha as she thought about her traffickers still looking for her and not feeling “safe”. The fear of his words to her scared her, “If she ever tried to leave him, he would make her pay.”
Four and a half months went by without her talking or interacting with the other girls at Rapha besides her counselor. One day when they called Sira into the counselor’s office, her lawyer shared news with Sira, news that her trafficker was in jail awaiting a trial. This meant as they went through the trial, Sira would remain safe at Rapha and start a life she thought she could never have.
