Three-year-old Lamai is no stranger to hardship. Once left to beg on the streets of an overpopulated city in Thailand, the unsupervised little girl was forced to collect coins in a rusty aluminum can from dawn to dusk. Lamai was vulnerable to all manner of assault and exploitation and was forced to submit her “earnings” to her trafficker.
Upon instituting policies discouraging child begging rings, the Thai government rescued Lamai and reached out to Rapha International who provided food, stability, support, medical attention, and counseling for Lamai. She also received training regarding personal hygiene and learned daily life skills such as how to use eating utensils.
Today, Lamai is thriving and loves her school! She enjoys swinging, jumping on the trampoline and playing with her classmates. Lamai is the reason the Tim Tebow Foundation is determined to continue the fight against anti-human trafficking. For more on Lamai’s story, please visit:
