Best Interesting and Unusual Things to Do in Jacksonville

Whether you are looking to buy a new home or selling your current house, one of the things that can be very useful in achieving this endeavor is to get to know the area in which you are hoping to buy or sell. This includes learning about the most interesting and unusual things to do in Jacksonville. Having this information can make the living experience as ideal as possible.

To help you get familiar with the area, it is wise to enlist the assistance of a local realtor such as ours at Your Home Sold Guaranteed Realty - Phil Aitken Home Team. Phil Aitken and his team are always glad to talk with their clients, and the subjects can most certainly include any and all avenues that can be used to achieve your real estate goals. As a way of getting you started, here are the top 4 unusual things to do in Jacksonville:

Chamblin Bookmine

If there are any book lovers among your family, including yourself, then you will definitely want to check out the Chamblin Bookmine. It is a 23,000 square foot warehouse of printed material that stretches wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling. When you walk into this warehouse, it will seem like a maze with its narrow corridors and roughly organized sections filled with 98% gently-used books.

Treaty Oak

There are several designated “treaty oaks” throughout the United States, and Jacksonville has one of them. In Treaty Oak Park, you will find a 250-year-old Live Oak tree whose thick branches resemble a wooden cephalopod, but the tree almost fell victim to urban sprawl. It was saved by a clever local reporter who was able to convince the city that the tree should be saved for historical purposes.

Abandoned Annie Lytle Elementary School

This schoolhouse was built in 1915 as Public School Number Four (later renamed), and it was a very popular school until the 1950s. Then the Jacksonville highway system was constructed just a hundred feet from the school itself. This caused the school to become isolated and inconvenient. The school closed in the 1960s and used for storage, but after a fire in 1995, the school was left to nature and has now been designated as a historic landmark.

Kona Skate Park

Thanks to the popularity of Surf City in Tucson, AZ, the Kona Skate Park emerged in the Jacksonville area. This iconic location was even given a Guiness Book of World Records as the “longest surviving privately owned skatepark” anywhere in the world. You may also see some familiar sights at the park if you play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4!
